Fish Biryani Recipe Chettinad Style
Biryani and Biryani…Is there anyone who does not like this dish? Even the kids like to have it at any time as it has different aromas hidden in it. Try this simple and tasty Indian Fish Biryani Recipe for your family members on a fine holiday and have it hot during any cold evening.
Ingredients
- 10 piecesFish pieces
- 3 tablespoonsOil
- 1 cupOnions
- 1 teaspoonGinger garlic paste
- 1 teaspoonCumin seeds
- 1 teaspoonGaram masala powder
- 1 tablespoonCoriander powder
- 1 teaspoonTurmeric powder
- to tasteSalt
- 1 cupYogurt
- 1 cupCoriander leaves
- 1Green chilies
- 1 teaspoonBiryani masala
- 1/3 cupBrowned onions
- 2 cupsRice
- 3Cloves
- 4Peppercorns
- 1Cinnamon
- 4Green cardamoms
- 3 cupsHot water
Directions
- Place a pan and add oil to it
- Once the oil is hot, add cumin seeds and allow them to splutter for few seconds
- Add chopped onions, chilies and fry them till they become golden brown in color
- Add ginger garlic paste to the fried onions and fry till the raw smell diasppers
- Add garam masala powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, salt and yogurt to it
- Saute till for 2 to 3 minutes
- Add fish pieces and cook them on high flame till the fish turns opaque
- Add the browned onions, chopped coriander leaves, green chilies and biryani masala
- Mix them well and reduce the flame
- While the fishes are boiling, start preparing rice for biryani
- To prepare rice, place a pressure cooker on flame and add oil to it
- Add cloves, peppercorns, cinnamon and cardamoms to it
- Fry them for 30 seconds and add 3 cups of water to it
- Add salt that is required for rice and mix it well with water
- Add rice to it and cook it till rice becomes tender
- Once the rice becomes tender, place a deep pan over the flame and place a layer of rice on it. Then place the fish layer on boiled rice layer. Then place another layer of rice on fish layer
- Cover the pan tightly with lid by placing a heavy weight on the lid
- Cook for about 10 minutes on low heat and off the flame
- Serve it hot with fresh Tomato Raita or with any Fish Curry Curry.
This biryani tastes less spicy and is easy to digest for kids. Add ghee to the rice while serving to kids as kids cannot adjust with even the few spices like cloves, peppercorns, etc.
