Tasty Sweet Pongal Recipe with Jaggery
Sweet Pongal also known as Sakkari Pongali is a delicious recipe that is generally prepared for South Indian occasions. It generally tastes good with newly harvested rice. Prepare it at home and offer it to lord Ganesha on the occasion of vinayaka chaturthi.
Ingredients
- ½ cupRaw rice
- ¼ cupMoong dal
- 1 cupJaggery
- 2 tablespoonsCashew nuts
- 2 teaspoonsRaisins
- 4 Cardamom
- 1 tablespoonGhee
Directions
- Dry roast rice and dal for 2 minutes in separate pans
- Pressure cook rice and dal together by adding enough water
- Mash some portion of it and keep it aside
- Add 1 cup of water to the pan and boil it
- Add the grated jaggery to it and dissolve it and remove the impurities by filtering it
- Add ghee to the jaggery. When you add little bit of jaggery syrup to water, it should not dissolve in water. Then it is the right consistency for pongali
- Add mashed rice mixture to the jaggery juice and cook for a while
- Add cardamom powder to the rice
- Fry the cashew nuts in ghee along with raisins
- Add the fried cashews and raisins to the rice mixture at the end
- Serve it hot as naivedyam to the God.
You can add extra ghee if you want as the dish tastes excellent with more ghee. This is generally made during Sankranthi in Adhra Pradesh. You can also add Tamarind Rice as naivedyam to Ganesha along with this sweet pongali.
