Onam Special Banana Chips Recipe
Banana Chips for Malayalis are just like drinking milk or eating biscuits at their young age. These are generally served in Onam Sadya Function. Try this recipe at home and have it as snacks during evenings.
Ingredients
- 1 cupRaw Bananas
- ½ cupTurmeric powder
- Oil for fryingbananas
- Saltto taste
Directions
- Place bananas in salted chilled water
- Chop the bananas into thin slices in water
- Add turmeric to it and keep it in the cold water for about 10 minutes
- Drain the water completely
- Transfer the banana pieces to a kitchen cloth and remove the moisture
- Dry them for 2 hours
- Place pan on heat and add oil to it
- Deep fry the slices till they turn crisp
- To make the banana slices more crispier, mix half tablespoon of water and ¼ tablespoon of salt
- Add the mixture to oil so that it makes the slices crispier
- Repeat the process with the remaining slices and place the chips on oil absorbent paper
- Cool them and store them in an airtight container
Banana Chips are also called as Kaya Varuthathu and is easy to make if you just have raw bananas and oil along with pinch of salt with you.
