South Indian Tasty Mango Rasam Recipe
The South Indian Style Mango Soup is definitely a special dish among Mango Recipes. Mangaai Rasam also called as Raw Mango Rasam is a flavorful and wonderful spiced soup. Try out this dish during summer, as it is a special fruit seen in every summer. Have a look at the recipe below.
Ingredients
- 1 Raw mango
- 1 tablespoon Jaggery
- 1Green chilies
- ¼ tablespoonTurmeric powder
- Salt to taste
- ½ teaspoonAsafoetida or hing
- 1 sprigCurry leaves
- 2Red Chilies
- ½ teaspoonUrad dal
- Oil for cooking
- ½ teaspoonMustard seeds
Directions
- Take a vessel and add 1 ½ cup of water, salt, raw mango pieces, green chili and turmeric
- Bring them to boil and reduce the flame
- Close the vessel with lid and boil the ingredients till the mango pieces turn soft
- Off the flame and allow to come to room temperature
- Once the mango mixture comes to room temperature, make it fine paste with the help of ladle or you can even grind the mixture
- Take another vessel and add the mango paste
- Add about 3 cups of water and mix it well
- Make sure that it should be watery consistency
- Add jiggery or sugar and boil the mango water
- Reduce the flame and boil it for about 5 minutes
- Now start the tampering process. Take a small pan and add oil to it
- Once the oil turn hot, add mustard seeds and allow them to splutter
- Add urad dal and let them turn red
- Finally add red chilies, asafetida and curry leaves
- Off the flame and pour the tampering in the hot mango rasam
- Turn of the mango rasam flame and place lid. Let the flavors meld for few minutes and then place it in a serving bowl.
This rasam or Mango Soup tastes good with white rice or you can take it as a warm soup if required. You can even pressure cook the mango pieces till they become soft. You can do the tampering with ghee also and add rasam powder while it is boiling. For better taste, add mashed moong dal to the mango water.
