Healthy and Tasty Oats Upma Recipe
Oats Upma is a healthy, tasty dish which is a perfect option for breakfast. It has a nice combination of oats, curry leaves and a variety of veggies. This dish is a healthy and a tummy filling recipe to kick start your day. It is a tasty and an easy to make breakfast recipe that you can enjoy with your family members.
Ingredients
- 2 cupsquick cooking rolled oats
- 3 tspoil
- 1 tspturmeric powder (haldi)
- 1 tspmustard seeds ( rai / sarson)
- 1 tspurad dal (split black lentils)
- 5 to 6curry leaves (kadi patta)
- 1whole dry Kashmiri red chili, broken into pieces
- 2green chilies
- 1/2 cupfinely chopped onions
- 1/4 cupfinely chopped carrot
- 1/4 cupgreen peas
- 1 tspsugar
- saltto taste
For The Garnish
- 2 tbspfinely chopped coriander (dhania)
Directions
- Heat 1 tsp of oil in a non-stick pan, add the oats and ½ tsp of turmeric powder and fry on a medium flame for 3 to 4 minutes or till it turns light brown in color, stir occasionally and keep it aside.
- Heat the 2 tsp of oil in a broad non-stick pan and add the mustard seeds and when the seeds crackle, add the urad dal, curry leaves, red chilies and green chilies and fry on a medium flame for 1 minute.
- Add the onions and fry on a medium flame for 1 minute or till the onions turn translucent.
- Add the carrots and green peas and fry on a medium flame for 2 minutes.
- Add the oats mixture, sugar, salt and ½ tsp of turmeric powder, mix it well and cook on a medium flame for 1 minute and stir continuously.
- Add 1½ cups of hot water, cover it with a lid and cook on a low flame for 5 to 7 minutes and stir occasionally.
- Switch off the flame and garnish with coriander and serve it hot.
