Spicy Green Moong Dal Khichdi Recipe
Green Moong Dal Khichdi is a perfect one-dish meal. It is prepared with rice and green moong dal and commonly considered to be a comfort food. The combination of carbohydrates and protein makes this Khichdi light on the stomach. It has a spicy and tasty rice dish that is perfect for weeknight dinner. Ingredients
- 1/2 cuprice (chawal)
- 1/2 cupgreen moong dal (split green gram)
- 1 tbspoil
- 1 tspmustard seeds (rai / sarson)
- 1 tspurad dal (split black lentils)
- 1/4 tspasafoetida (hing)
- 2 tspfinely chopped garlic (lehsun)
- 1/2 cupfinely chopped onions
- 1 tspchili powder
- 1/4 tspturmeric powder (haldi)
- 1 tspcoriander-cumin seeds (dhania-jeera) powder
- saltto taste
- 1 tbspfinely chopped coriander leaves (dhania)
Directions
- In a bowl, add the rice and green moong dal in enough hot water and soak for 2 hours and then drain the water for rice- dal.
- In a pressure cooker, add the rice and green moong dal salt and 3 cups of water, mix it well and pressure cook for 20min.
- Once done, switch off the flame and allow the steam to escape before opening the lid and keep it aside.
- Heat the oil in a deep kadhai and add the mustard seeds, urad dal and asafoetida and when the mustard seeds crackle, add the garlic and onions and fry on a medium flame for 1 to 2 minutes.
- Add the chili powder, turmeric powder and coriander-cumin seeds powder, mix it well and cook on a medium flame for 1 minute.
- Add the cooked rice-moong dal mixture, coriander leaves, a little salt, and ½ cup of water, mix it well and cook on a medium flame for 2 to 3 minutes and stir occasionally and switch off the flame.
- Serve it hot with tomato raita and enjoy a hearty meal.
