South Indian Style Tamarind Rice Recipe
Tamarind Rice is one of the best, delicious South Indian Rice dish preparation. This dish has a great combination of different flavors and taste. This is perfect lunch or dinner. This dish is very easy to prepare with just a few ingredients.
Ingredients
For The Masala
- 1 1/2 tspchana dal (split Bengal gram)
- 1 1/2 tspurad dal (split black lentils)
- 1 1/2 tspcoriander (dhania) seeds
- 3 to 4whole dry Kashmiri red chilies, broken into pieces
- 2 tspsesame seeds (til)
Other Ingredients
- 1 tbspcoconut oil or any other refined oil
- 1/2 cuppeanuts
- 1/2 tspchana dal (split Bengal gram)
- 1/2 tspurad dal (split black lentils)
- 8 to 10curry leaves (kadi patta)
- Fewsafoetida (hing)
- 1/4 tspturmeric powder (haldi)
- 1/2 cuptamarind (imli) pulp
- 2 1/2 cupscooked rice (in deep pan add water and rice and once done, drain the water and keep it aside.)

Directions
For the masala
- Heat a small pan, chana dal, urad dal, coriander seeds, red chili, sesame seeds and dry roast on a low flame for 5 minutes or roast until they turn golden brown in color and stir continuously and blend to a fine powder and keep it aside.
For the dough
- Heat the oil in a kadhai, add the peanuts and fry on a slow flame for 4 to 5 minutes or till they turn light pink in color and stir continuously.
- Add the chana dal, urad dal, curry leaves, asafoetida and turmeric powder, mix it well and fry on a medium flame for a minute, while stirring continuously.
- Add the tamarind pulp, mix it well and cook on a medium flame for 2 minutes or until the mixture thickens.
- Add the prepared masala, cooked rice, and salt and toss it gently and switch off the flame and serve it hot with a pickle.
