Tasty Urad Dal Tadka Recipe

Urad Dal Tadka is a popular and authentic dal recipe which is prepared with urad dal and lot of various spices. The addition of spices provides a special flavor and aroma to this dal. You can serve this dal with roti or rice for a full-felling lunch or dinner.
Ingredients
- 1 cupurad dal, split black gram (washed)
- Saltto taste
- 1/4 tspturmeric
- 1 tbspginger (finely chopped)
- 2 cupswater
- 1/4 tspgaram masala
- 1/2 tspmango powder (amchoor)
For the seasoning/ tadka
- 3 tbspghee (clarified butter)
- 1/2 tspcumin seeds (jeera)
- 1/8 tspasafoetida (hing)
- 1green chili (sliced)
- 1 Tbspginger (thinly sliced)
- 1/2 tspred pepper (adjust to taste)
- 4lemon, wedges (for garnishing)
Directions
- In a bowl soak urad dal for 20 minutes and you will notice that the dal will be double in volume after soaking and then drain the water from the dal.
- In a pressure cooker add the soaked dal, 2 cups water,salt, turmeric, and ginger. Cover it with the lid and cook on medium flame for 15 min.
- Turn off the flame and wait until all the steam has escaped before opening the lid of the pressure cooker.
For the Seasoning/tadka
- Heat ghee in a small saucepan and add the cumin seeds and add the Asafoetida, ginger, and green chilies and fry for a few second.
- Add red chili powder and 1 tablespoon of water to prevent the spices from burning.
- Just before serving, reheat the dal and pour the seasoning to the dal and mix it and switch of the flame and transfer it to a serving bowl and garnish with lemon wedges and serve it with rice or roti.
