Andhra Style Tomato Dal Recipe
Tomato Dal is a common and popular dal recipe of Andhra cuisine. It is a lovely and delicately spiced dal recipe with a distinct taste and flavors. This dal is perfect for lunch or dinner. Let’s follow this recipe.
Ingredients
- 1 cuptoor dal, pressure cook until soft and mash it lightly
- 1onion finely chopped
- 2large tomatoes, finely chopped
- 3-4green chili slit length wise
- 1ginger, finely chopped
- 1/4 tspturmeric powder
For tempering/tadka:
- 1 tbspoil
- 1/2 tspmustard seeds
- 1/2 tspcumin seeds
- 3-4dried red chili (tear into pieces)
- 5-6garlic flakes crushed OR 1/4 tsp asafoetida/hing
Directions
- Step1Heat oil in a heavy bottomed vessel, add mustard seeds, let them pop, add the cumin seeds, garlic, red chili, and curry leaves and fry for few secs.
- Step2Add the chopped onions, green chilies and ginger and fry till onions turn slightly pink.
- Step3Add chopped tomatoes and stir fry for 4-5 min and add the turmeric powder and salt and mix it nicely.
- Step4Add the cooked and mashed dal to the onion-tomato mixture and add 1 cup of water and cook for another 10 min on low flame and switch off the flame.
- Step5Garnish with coriander leaves and serve this dal white rice or hot rotis.
