Suran Chips Recipe
Suran (Elephant Foot Yam Chips is a tasty and healthy South Indian side dish that goes very well with rice and dal. This recipe is simple and can be easily cooked in your house. Let’s follow this recipe.
Ingredients
- 250 gmelephant Foot Yam (suran) peeled and thinly sliced
- 1 tbspturmeric (haldi)
- 2 tbspkashmiri red chili powder or 1 tbsp red chili powder
- 1 tbspvinegar
- ½ cupsemolina or more if required
- saltas per taste
Directions
- Peel off the outer layer of yam and slice as thin as you can and wash it nicely.
- In a bowl add red chili powder, turmeric powder, vinegar, and salt and add the sliced yam pieces and mix it gently and marinate for 15-20 min.
- Spread semolina over a platter and coat the marinated yam slices with semolina.
- In a pan with oil and once the oil is hot, deep fry the yam from both sides until golden brown and crisp.
- Don't clutter with too many while frying, fry some at a time and place them over absorbent paper.
- Serve the hot suran/yam fry with sauce or chutney.
Notes
- You can also shallow fry the yams.
- You canuse lemon juice instead of vinegar.
- Ensure you fry them on a medium flame.
- It's important to use tangy juice like lemon, tamarind or vinegar as yam are sticky so this aids in removing the stickiness.
