Prep Time: 15min Cook time: 25min Ingredients: For The Stuffing 1 cupgrated coconut,1/2 cupsugar,2-1/2 tbspgrated low fat mawa (khoya),10-12chopped cashew nuts (kaju),10-12chopped pistachios,10-12almond (badam) slivers,1/2 tspcardamom (elaichi) powder, For The Dough 1 cupwhole wheat flour (gehun ka atta),1 tbspsemolina (rava),2 tbspghee,a pinchof saltr,oilfor deep frying, Instructions: For the stuffing In a deep-non stick pan, add coconut, sugar and mawa in a broad non-stick pan, mix it well and cook on a medium flame for 2 to 3 minute or till it turns light brown in color and stir occasionally. Add the nuts and cardamom powder, mix it well and cook on a medium flame for 1 minute and stir continuously. Divide the mixture into equal portions and keep it aside to cool completely. For the dough In a bowl, add whole wheat flour and semolina and mix it well. Heat the ghee in a small non-stick pan on a medium flame for 2 minutes or cook till it is smoky hot. Add it to the flour mixture, add the salt and mix it well by using a spoon and knead it into a semi-stiff dough by using enough water. Divide the dough into equal portions and roll a portion of a dough into 75 mm. (3") diameter circle, put a portion of the prepared stuffing in the center, pinch it all over the circumference at regular intervals, and bring all the pinched sides together in the center and seal it. Heat the oil in a deep non–stick pan, deep fry few Modaks at a time and fry till they are golden brown in color from all the sides. Drain on an absorbent paper and serve it. Meghna Nath

Ganesh Chaturthi Special Fried Modak Recipe

Fried Modak is a deep fried version of steamed Modak and generally prepared on Ganesh Chaturthi. This Modak is crispy from outside and tasty and soft from inside. This Modak has a nice aroma and also has a nice texture and flavor. The addition of rava(semolina), gives a nice crunch to this sweet dish.

Ingredients

For The Stuffing

  • 1 cupgrated coconut
  • 1/2 cupsugar
  • 2-1/2 tbspgrated low fat mawa (khoya)
  • 10-12chopped cashew nuts (kaju)
