Easy Mango (Mamidikaya) Pulusu Recipe
Mango Pulusu is a stew made of raw mangoes. This stew is a perfect combination of sweet, sour, spicy, and it tastes heavenly when served with hot rice and ghee. Prepare this dish for lunch or dinner on this Ugadi.
Ingredients
- 1mango (thotapuri variety), skin, de-seed and cube
- 1drumstick, cut into 2 inch pieces (optional)
- 2medium sized onions, finely chopped onions
- 2green chili
- 14 -15curry leaves
- 1 tspred chili powder (adjust)
- 1-1/2 tbspjaggery, grated (adjust)
- smalllemon sized tamarind ball, extract pulp
- saltto taste
- for garnishcoriander leaves
- 1/2 tbspoil
For tempering/tadka
- 1/2mustard seeds
- 1/4 tspmethi seeds
- 1/2 tspcumin
- 1dry red chili, de-seed and tear
- big pinchasafoetida
Directions
- Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds and let them pop, add cumin, methi, red chili and asafoetida, and toss for a few seconds till the flavors come out but see that don't burn them.
- Add curry leaves, onions, green chili, and saute till the onions turn transparent and add chili powder, and salt and mix it well.
- Add mango cubes and drumstick pieces and cook for 2-3 min and stir occasionally and cook on a low flame.
- Add grated jaggery and cook for a minute and add the tamarind pulp along with two cups of water.
- Pressure cook for 15 min and turn off the flame and once the pressure is released, open the lid and see if the mango has been cooked and turned soft.
- If not, cook till the mango pieces turn soft and once cooked, garnish with coriander leaves.
- Serve with hot steamed rice.
