Delicious Mustard Chicken Recipe
Mustard Chicken is a side dish to be enjoyed with naan and homemade roti. This dish is delicious and easy to prepare at home on special occasions and get together. Follow this recipe.
Ingredients
- Chicken1kg (cut into medium sized pieces)
For marinade
- 2tbspLemon juice
- 2tbspGinger garlic paste
- 3tbspOnion paste
- ½ cupYogurt
- 1tbspMustard oil
- 1tspRed chili powder
- 4tbspWhite mustard seeds
- 3-4Green chilies
- Saltas per taste
For the gravy
- 4tbspMustard oil
- 3Onions (chopped)
- 1tspSugar
- 1tbspGinger-garlic paste
- 1tspTurmeric powder
- 1tspRed chili powder
- 2tbspWhite mustard paste
- Saltas per taste
- 3 cupsWarm water
Directions
- Grind mustard seeds with green chilies and one tablespoon of water into a thick paste.
- Wash the chicken pieces thoroughly with water and marinate them with two tablespoons of blended mustard paste and all the ingredients listed under 'for the marinate’ and refrigerate the chicken for 1 hour. Heat mustard oil in a pan and add sugar andallow it to caramelize on medium heat and keep stirring the sugar until it dissolves and the color turns brown.
- Add the chopped onions and fry for 5-6 minutes on a medium flame.
- Add ginger-garlic paste and cook for about 2-3 minutes and then add the marinated chicken pieces and cook for 8-10 minute and keep stirring at regular intervals.
- Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, two tablespoons of the white mustard paste, salt and cook for2 minutes.
- Add the warm water and mix it well and cover the pan with a lid and cook for 20 minutes on a medium flame and stir at regular intervals.
- Once done, open the lid and check the chicken with a fork if it is completely cooked and when the chicken is cooked, switch off the flame and serve it hot.
