How to Prepare Dal Pakwan Recipe

Dal Pakwan is a popular and traditional Sindhi breakfast dish. Dal Pakwan is made during special occasions or festivals. Pakwan is a crisp puri served with spicy dal. Let follow this recipe.
Ingredients
For The Dal
- 1 cupchana dal (split bengal gram) , soaked for 4 hours and drained
- 1/4 tspturmeric powder (haldi)
- saltto taste
- 2 tbspghee
- 1 tspcumin seeds (jeera)
- 1green chili
- 1 tspchili powder
- 1/4 tspgaram masala
For The Pakwans
- 2 cupsplain flour (maida)
- 2 tbspghee
- 1 tspcumin seeds (jeera)
- saltto taste
- 1/4 cupmilk
- oilfor deep-frying
For Serving
- 6 tbspfinely chopped onions
- 6 tbspfinely chopped coriander (dhania)
Directions
For the dal
- In a pressure cooker add chana dal, 1½ cups of water, turmeric powder, and salt, mix it well and pressure cook for 20 min and allow the steam to escape completely before opening the lid.
- Heat the ghee in a deep non-stick pan, add cumin seeds and allow it to crackle and when the seeds crackle, add green chili, chili powder, garam masala, cooked chana dal and little salt, mix it well and cook on a medium flame for 2 to 3 minutes and stir occasionally and keep it aside.
For the Pakwan
- In a bowl add flour, ghee, cumin seeds, salt, milk and knead into a firm dough using enough water.
- Divide the dough into equal portions and roll a portion of the dough into a 125 mm. (5”) diameter circle and prick it with a fork at regular intervals.
- Heat the oil in a deep non-stick kadhai and deep-fry it on a medium flame till it turns crisp and golden brown in color from both the sides and drain on an absorbent paper and keep it aside.
How to proceed
- Just before serving, reheat the dal and divide it into equal portions and keep it aside Place the Pakwans on a serving dish and spread one portion of the dal evenly over it.
- Sprinkle 1 tbsp of the onions and 1 tbsp of coriander evenly over it.
- Serve it.
