Spicy Chettinad Fish Fry Recipe
Chettinad Fish Fry is a delicious and spicy preparation of fish prepared in the Chettinad region of South India. As fish is rich in omega 3 fatty acids. Learn how to make Spicy Chettinad Fish Fry using simple masala.
Ingredients
- 2surmai (King fish) fillets
- 2oil, to pan fry
For the marination
- 7-8cloves garlic
- 1knob ginger, mashed
- 1tspcumin
- 1tspfennel
- 2 tspcoriander seeds
- 2 tspblack peppercorns
- 1/2 tspmustard seeds
- 9-10curry leaves
- Saltto taste
- 1 tspoil, to grind
- 1 Tbspwater
- 1/2tomato, chopped
- 1 Tbspwater
- 1 tspred chili powder
- 5 tsptamarind extract
- 1 Tbspcornflour, to sprinkle
Directions
- Cut the fish fillets into equal medium sized pieces.
- In a pan, dry roast garlic, ginger, cumin, fennel, coriander seeds, black peppercorns, mustard seeds, and curry leaves.
- Pound them in a mortar and pestle and add a little salt, oil, and water.
- Now add the chopped tomato, turmeric powder, red chili powder, salt and tamarind extract.
- Pound them together till pulp like and spread it over the fish pieces and sprinkle some cornflour over the fish, as the cornflour helps the masala to stick
- Marinate the fish and keep in the fridge for 15-20 minutes.
- In a pan pour oil and fry the fish until crisp and serve it hot.
