Tasty and Easy Dabeli Recipe
Dabeli is a popular snack of Mumbai. Pav(small burger buns) filled with spicy potatoes and topped with chutney, fine sev and pomegranate. Try this tasty and easy Dabeli recipe.
Ingredients
For the dough
- 1-1/2 tbspDabeli masala , (readily available in the market)
- 2 tbspmeethi chutney
- 1 tbspoil
- 1-1/4 cupsboiled , peeled and mashed potatoes
- saltto taste
- 2 tbspfinely chopped coriander (dhania)
- 2 tbspgrated coconut
- 2 tbspfresh pomegranate
For Meethi Chutney
- 1 cupdeseeded dates (khajur)
- 2 to 3deseeded tamarind (imli)
- 1/2 cupgrated jaggery (gur)
- 1/2 tspchili powder
- 1 tspcumin seeds (jeera) powder
- saltto taste
Other Ingredients
- 4Dabeli pav
- 4 tsplehsun ki chutney
- 2 tbspmeethi chutney
- 4 tspfinely chopped onions
- 4 tspmasala peanuts (readily available at the market)
- 4 tspnylon sev
- 2 tbspbutter for cooking
For Lehsun Ki Chutney
- 1 cuppeeled and roughly chopped garlic (lehsun)
- 3 tbspchili powder
- saltto taste
For The Garnish
- 2 tbspnylon sev
Directions
For Sweet Chutney
- In a pressure cooker add dates, tamarind, jaggery and 1 cup of water, mix it well and pressure cook for 35 min.
- Allow the steam to escape before opening the lid and keep it aside to cool.
- Blend in a mixer to a smooth paste and strain it using a strainer.
- Add 1½ cups of water, chili powder, cumin seeds powder and salt and mix it well and keep it aside.
For Lehsun Ki Chutney
- Combine all the ingredients along with ¼ cup of water in a mixer and blend until smooth and keep it aside.
For the stuffing
- In a bowl add Dabeli masala, sweet chutney and a little water (approx. 1 tbsp)and mix it well.
- Heat oil in a non-stick pan, add the prepared masala mixture, mix it well and cook on a medium flame for 1 minute and stir continuously.
- Add the mashed potatoes, salt and a little water, mix it well and cook on a medium flame for 2 to 3 minutes and stir continuously.
- Remove from the flame, transfer it to a plate and press it well with the back of a spoon.
- Sprinkle the coriander, coconut, and pomegranate on top and keep it aside.
How to proceed
- Take a pav and split it into two sides at the right angle (keeping them joined at the remaining 2 ends).
- Apply 1 tsp of lehsun ki chutney and 1/2 tbsp of meethi chutney evenly on the inner sides of the pav.
- Stuff with 2 tbsp of the stuffing and top with 1 tsp of onions, 1 tsp of masala peanuts, and 1 tsp of sev.
- Just before serving, cook each Dabeli on a hot tawa (griddle) for a minute by using a little butter.
- Garnish with sev and serve it.
